Organisational structure

 

The President of the Public Health Association is Adj Prof Tarun Weeramanthri AM, who is supported by a board of eleven members.  The CEO is Adj Prof Terry Slevin.

The current office holders for Branch Presidents and Convenors of Special Interest Groups and Students and Young Professionals are located in the respective sections of the website.

Terry Slevin, Chief Executive Officer

Mr Terry Slevin has been Chief Executive Officer for the Public Health Association of Australia since May 2018. 

He is Adjunct Professor in the National Drug Research Institute at Curtin University, and Adjunct Professor in the College of Health and Medicine at the Australian National University. 

He is a Fellow of PHAA, and was the first Vice President (Development) of the Association.

 

 

Anne Brown, Operations and Finance Manager

Ms Anne Brown has been with the PHAA team since April 2011. 

Anne has over 30 years experience in finance and administration and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. 

Anne holds qualifications in finance, business administration, leadership and management. 

Anne is well known for her emphasis on team work and co-operation, and is undertaking study to obtain a Master in Business Administration.

Noora Salo - Membership and Administration Officer

Ms Noora Salo joined the PHAA team in late 2021 as the Membership and Administration Officer.

Noora is a graduate of Macquarie University, and holds a Bachelor of International Studies.

Noora has experience working in the diplomatic service as well as significant customer service experience gained from retail management positions.  

 

 

Amber Rowe - Membership and Administration Officer

Amber joined PHAA in 2022 as the Membership and Administration officer, a role she shares with Noora Salo.

Amber holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Canberra and is undertaking study to complete a Master’s degree in Health.

Amber has experience working in the health sector as well as significant administrative experience gained within law and finance. 

 

 

Jenni Garlick - Finance and Administration Officer

Jenni joined PHAA in 2023. She has many years' experience working in accounts and administration in various industries. 

 

Leanne Coombe - Policy and Advocacy Manager

Leanne has been a member of the PHAA for many years and has joined the staff in 2022 as the Policy and Advocacy Manager.

She has both Master and Doctorate degrees in Public Health, and postgraduate qualifications in public relations.

She has over 20 years of experience in public health throughout Australia and internationally.

These include as a health practitioner, executive manager in both the Australian Government and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Sector.

Dr Coombe has also served as an international public health consultant, and public health academic.

She is also co-chair of the World Federation of Public Health Associations’ Professional Education and Training Working Group.

Malcolm Baalman - Senior Policy and Advocacy Adviser

Mr Malcolm Baalman is a Senior Policy and Advocacy Adviser with a diverse public policy background covering parliamentary and electoral matters, health, transport and infrastructure, and law.

 

 

 

Lily Pratt - Policy Officer

Lily joined the PHAA team in late 2022 as a Policy Officer.

She gained both her Bachelor of Nursing and Master of Public Health degrees from the University of Queensland.

Lily has applied her skills in aged care, health promotion and preventative health both in Australia and abroad; and has gained valuable insight into advocacy, policy and health equity while recently living and working in Washington D.C., USA.

 

 

Paris Lord - Communications and Media Manager

Mr Paris Lord has more than two decades’ experience including senior roles with the Australian Local Government Association, Australian National University, and Australian Consulate-General Shanghai.

He has been a senator’s media advisor, and worked as a commercial radio, print, magazine, and newspaper journalist in Australia and east Asia.

 

 

 

Jasmine Lykissas - Communications Officer

Jasmine joined the communications team at PHAA in October 2023. Jasmine is a public health professional with a Master of Culture, Health and Medicine from the Australian National University, and a Bachelor of Advanced Humanities (Honours) from the University of Queensland.

She has varied experience developing population health research and programs. Jasmine is passionate about strengthening research impact through effective public health communication.

Hollie Harwood - Strategic Communications Adviser

Hollie Harwood is a communications professional with almost 20 years’ experience working in both Sydney and London. She joined PHAA in 2023.

Hollie’s expertise spans communications strategy development and implementation, stakeholder relationship management, issues and crisis management, integrated campaign management, copywriting, media relations and social media management.

Prior to joining PHAA, Hollie was Head of Media and Communications at Cancer Council Australia.

At PHAA Hollie provides senior strategic communications advice and leads communications for the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health.

Hollie has a BA in Communications from the University of Technology Sydney, where she also regularly works as a casual academic.

 Eliza van Der Kley

 

Eliza Van Der Kley - Events Manager

Ms Eliza Van Der Kley joined the Public Health Association of Australia team in December 2016.

She is passionate about the events industry and has over 10 years’ experience working in various event roles.

Through years of customers service experience and client relations, she has developed strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships and partnerships.

Eliza spent a short time away from PHAA and returned to organisation as the Events Manager.

Mandy Winter - Events Officer

Ms Mandy Winter joined the PHAA Events Team in early 2021.

Mandy brings more than 20 years’ experience of professional conference organising, administration and stakeholder communication. 

Mandy comes from a customer service and sales background with a large focus on building lasting relationships.

Her strengths include her time management skills, attention to detail and her passion for delivering successful events.

 

 

Cal Spencer-Rosenberg - Events Officer

Ms Cal Spencer-Rosenberg has over 20 years of experience in events, gained in corporate, private, and non-profit organisations across London, Melbourne, and Brisbane.

In January 2022 she completed a Bachelor of Health Sciences, majoring in public health, and brings both her academic and professional career experience to this role.

 

 

Anise Clarke

Ms Anise Clarke joined the Public Health Association of Australia events team in 2023.

She has over 20 years of experience working in events, facilitation and public policy, and more recently as an allied health practitioner.

She has a passion for health, healing, and wellbeing, and supporting this sector’s many wonderful individuals and organisations in their endeavours.

Sarah Fraser-Chitticks - Events Officer

Ms Sarah Fraser-Chitticks joined the PHAA Events Team mid-2021.

Sarah completed a Certificate III and a Diploma in Event Management at The Canberra Institute of Technology in 2017.

Sarah has a wide variety of event and association experience, and is very passionate about event management.
