Health and Climate Strategy can help tackle health harms: PHAA

5 December 2023

The country’s peak body for public health welcomes the release of the first National Health and Climate Strategy, and its potential to mitigate some of the health harms caused by a warming planet.

The Public Health Association of Australia appreciates all the efforts from Assistant Minister for Health, Ged Kearney and her office, the Department of Health and Aged Care, and the many health and medical sector  individuals and groups who’ve worked on the strategy.

PHAA hopes that this strategy, and its enactment alongside the National Preventive Health Strategy 2021-2030, are both funded adequately and acted on, so that the many of the health harms from climate change including heat, can be reduced.

We stand alongside many PHAA individuals, and groups like the Climate and Health Alliance and Doctors for the Environment Australia who’ve pushed for this strategy, and look forward to working with them and the government to see the strategy’s potential is fulfilled.
