Call For Paper Guidelines

This conference will be a stimulating opportunity to showcase recent research, programs and services. The aim of the conference is to reflect the full range of public health research and practice. Papers/posters/workshops from all aspects of the pubic health arena are encouraged. There is a focus on reinforcing support for younger public health professionals into the future to ensure public health continues to grow. We welcome papers from public health practitioners with substantial experience but and ask them to assist the organizing committee to support and promote papers by younger public health practitioners and students.

The Program will include international, national and local speakers including Dr Amaya Gillespie (Secretariat Director of the UN Secretary General's Study on Violence Against Children - Geneva); Dr Andrew Gilman (UBC Vancouver), Prof Fiona Stanley (Telethon Child Health Institute), Dr Norman Swan, Professor D'Arcy Holman and many others.

The program committee invites you to submit a paper for this conference. The following categories of papers are invited:

Proffered Papers -Papers are sought on any aspects of public health relevant to the conference theme or sub-themes. It is hoped that these will reflect the full range of public health activities and interests and will include papers that offer critical or reflective comment as well as purely program descriptive papers.

Posters - Posters are invited on any aspect of public health relevant to the conference theme or sub-themes. Incentives will be offered to conference delegates to extensively view the posters and discuss the work with poster presenters. Prizes will be awarded to poster presenters on the last day of the conference.

Workshops -Workshops will be held on Wednesday 31 October. Expressions of interest to convene a workshop are invited.

  • Places (Projects or research that focus on places - for example settings based projects, projects in geographical locations, etc);
  • Policies (Public health policies, policies that impact on public health, regulation and legislation, advocacy, etc);
  • The development of the public health profession.

Presentations

We wish to encourage productive discussion, interaction and networking. This will be achieved through formal oral paper presentations followed by short discussions. All presentation rooms will be provided with equipment for electronic presentations. The program will promote formal and informal contact between poster presenters and the audience.

Oral Presentations
The duration of the sessions will be 90 minutes and papers will be grouped according to themes. All oral presentations will be 15 minutes in duration (10 minutes to present & 5 minutes discussion).

Posters
Posters will be divided into themes. Authors will be invited to be present at their posters for discussion with attendees during the conference program.

Other formats including workshops
Presenter(s) are to nominate and provide an abstract, describe the format of the proposed workshop and advise of the presenter(s) who will be conducting the session. Workshops will be scheduled for Wednesday 31 October 2007.

Format Requirements

All intended presentations require the submission of an abstract.

All abstracts must be submitted electronically in Word or Rich Text Format (windows compatible). All abstracts will be subject to peer review. Priority will be given to papers that relate to the conference theme and offer critical or reflective comment rather than purely program descriptive oral papers. Conference papers that include a focus on building capacity amongst younger public health professionals will be given priority.

The abstract must show the title of the paper (no longer than 12 words). Please try to give your paper an interesting title to attract as many delegates as possible. The abstract should be a maximum of 200 words in simple text paragraphs without tables, images or sub-headings. Please use Times New Roman in 12-point font.

Please state the presenter's full name, title, postal address, phone, fax and email address. If there is more than one presenter, please indicate. All correspondence will be sent to the first presenter nominated in the abstract.

Please clearly mark the preferred format of your presentation e.g. poster, oral, workshop or 'other format' presentation. For other formats, you are required to provide, on a separate sheet to the abstract, a description of how the session will be conducted, and its duration.

Guidelines for preparation of posters will be provided once abstracts have been accepted.

All presenters must register and pay the conference registration fee.
